David James Henry, 77, of Vermilion, died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 19, 1940 in Cleveland and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 53 years.

David graduated from Ashland University and earned his Master's in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music, Chicago, IL. His musical talents inspired many students at Vermilion Local schools where he served as Musical Director, Choir Director at the Middle School, and High School Band Director. David retired in 1994 after 30 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vermilion where he was the Music Director for 45 years. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, music, woodworking/building, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Ann Henry of Vermilion; daughter, Dawn (Richard) Clark of Vermilion; son, Eric (Brenda) Henry of Vermilion; grandchildren: Ashley (Chuck), Branden (Jenn), Bryce (Kristen), Morgan (Aaron), Cory (Alex), and Dillon; great grandchildren: Chuckie, Evan, Payton, Skylar, Jayden, Ashlyn, Colton, and Gavin; and his sister, Marylyn Mae (Larry) Harley of Painsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sheldon and Velma (nee Downing) Henry; step mother, Nancy Elizabeth (nee Morgan) Henry; and his brother, Sheldon Thomas Henry.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 from 4:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverends Allison LeBrun and Doug Thatcher will co-officiate. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Grace United Methodist Church, Coen and West Lake Rd., Vermilion, OH 44089.
