CW5 David Leon McClain, age 64, of Murrells Inlet, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, September 15, 2016.
Born September 21, 1951 in Stephens County, GA, he was a son of the late Isac Loron "Pete" McClain and Ruby Allene Whiten McClain.
He was a member of the First Baptist Murrells Inlet and was retired from the United States Army. David began his career with the United States Army Reserve in 1970 and retired in August 2005. He was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" Device, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. David was a member of the Warrant Officers Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Chemical Regimental Association, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Family members include his wife, Lynn Whitworth McClain; daughter, Milissa Anne McClain of Summerville, SC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye M. and Kenny Taylor and Carolyn M. and Ronnie Thurmond all of Toccoa; mother-in-law, Margie M. Whitworth of Toccoa; sister-in-law and her spouse, Debbie Whitworth Cromer and Chad of Anderson, SC; brother-in-law, Kenneth Whitworth and Sharlene of Eastanollee; his special companion, Sammy the Cat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Michael McClain
Graveside services will be held at eleven o'clock Monday, September 19, 2016 at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Pastor Christopher Spires officiating.
Burial will follow with Full Military Honors provided by the United States Army.
The following gentlemen will serve as honorary pallbearers; Carl Nuttall, Mike Phillips, Earl Williams, Stan Cothran, Gary Shamlin, Ray McElroy, Archie Gentry, and Trent Ivester.
The family will receive friends at the Whitlock Mortuary from 6pm – 8pm Sunday, September 18, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the First Baptist Murrells Inlet Building Fund, P. O. Box 285 Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o'clock Saturday, September 24, 2016 at First Baptist Murrells Inlet.
