David Peter Flynn of Pittsfield, MA, passed away peacefully at home on March 30th, 2015 after a brave battle with cancer. Born on April 25, 1951 in Jamaica Plain, MA, he was the youngest of Thomas Sr. and Madeline (née Callahan) Flynn's five children. He spent his school years in the Berkshires, graduating in 1969 from Lenox Memorial High School and then attended Emerson College in Boston and graduated from Cape Cod Community College in 1975." A talented guitarist, he toured and played with "The Fabulous Shittons" throughout the late 60s and early 70s, but his most important gig came in 1972: the night his band was booked to play at Northern Essex Community College where he met the student organizer and the love of his life, Deborah Avedian. They married in February of 1974 and built a home together on Cape Cod. In 1984, they moved to Pittsfield, where they raised their four daughters and became members of a wonderful and supportive community. He and his wife established Pittsfield's first smoke-free restaurant, Court Square Breakfast and Deli, where Dave soon became well-known as a fantastic cook and great caterer. Before and after his Court Square years he was employed by his family's business Flynn Volkswagen, Audi, BMW. Most recently, Dave performed with local favorite Greylock, a classic rock band, which cemented his status as one of the nicest guys in rock n' roll. He was an easygoing man, known for his warm smile, friendship, kindness and integrity. An avid reader of mystery novels, skilled with home improvement, and a fan of music across all genres, he was always happiest when spending time on Cape Cod with his ever-growing and devoted family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Walters, his brother-in-law Ernest Valliere, and his sister-in-law Marion Flynn, and is survived by three siblings: Thomas Flynn Jr.; Janice Hodgkins and husband Wayne; and Susan Dykes and husband Otis; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Deborah, Dave leaves behind his beloved four daughters and sons-in-law: Kate Flynn Grant and husband Tom of Reading, MA; Keely Flynn Schoeny and husband P.J. of Chicago, IL; Rachel Flynn of New York, NY; and Emily Flynn Pesquera and husband Dan of Somerville, MA.; as well as his seven adored grandchildren: Quinn, Cole, Declan, and Garrett Grant; and Nora Jane, Susannah, and Jasper Schoeny. The family wishes to thank their many kind and caring friends who have surrounded them with love and prayers during these past two and a half years and who continue to be a blessing for the family. They also extend gratitude to Dave's oncology nurses and staff at Berkshire Oncology and the crew at Hospice Care of the Berkshires.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Dave's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Hannah Anderson. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Memorial donations in memory of Dave may be made to the St. Stephen's Church Food Pantry (St. Stephen's Table) or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
