Delbert Leon Campbell Jr., 84, passed away Friday May 5, 2017 with his family in Tampa, Florida. "Del" was born October 24, 1932 to Delbert Sr. and Thelma (Cox) Campbell in Dayton, Ohio; the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from Stivers High School in 1950. Delbert served in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Marshall (DD-676) and the USS Piedmont (DD AD-17) as an Hospital Corpsman Second Class. He met his bride, Melia Sue Wright, and they married in 1971 in Dayton, Ohio. Upon his release from the Navy, Delbert became a Plumber and in 1972 Del began a long career as a business owner and Master Plumber, establishing Del's Plumbing Service which he managed for 20 years until his first retirement. Del subsequently went on to serve as the School Custodian for West Carrolton Junior High School for more than 14 years until his final retirement in 2007. Del loved to spend time with his wife, kids, and grandkids and was an avid sports fan including college football, and especially basketball. Del is survived by his wife, Melia; sons Gary Lee Cantrell (wife Cheri), Gerald Thomas Campbell Sr. (wife Jill), Robert Leon Campbell, and daughter Carole Dianne Campbell; grandchildren, Gerald "Thomas" (Jr), Julia, and George Campbell, Kyle Cantrell and Jami Russell (husband Victor); great grandchildren, Samantha, Haley, Rylee, Joseph and Jacob Russell; brothers Dale Campbell (wife Audrey), David Campbell, and Douglas Campbell (wife Rebecca). Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Richard Gregory Campbell (wife Aas). The family will greet friends, Thursday, May 11, 2017 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Dayton, Ohio 45429, from 3:00 pm until the funeral service at 5:00 pm with his brother Pastor DR. Dale R. Campbell officiating. Burial will be later in West Liberty, KY.
