Dennis M. “Denny” Martin, age 75, of Lecanto, Florida died on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Denny was a 47 year resident of Spring Hill, FL originally coming from Floral Park, NY. Denny was born in Jamaica, NY to the late Matthew & Grace (Rosengart) Martin, on August 5, 1941. Dennis was a co-owner of the Mermaid Pool Company before retiring. Denny was a huge NY Giants and Rangers fan, as well as a big horse racing enthusiast at Belmont Race Track in NY. Denny was very much into his sports! Locally, Denny was very well known for coaching Little League Football and Baseball. He was a founding member of the West Hernando Little League and Cougar Football teams. Denny helped start the West Hernando Social Athletic Club, on Deltona Blvd in Spring Hill. From a vacant lot, he helped clear the very first stone to get the field ready to play. Denny was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister, Patricia Sostak. Dennis is lovingly survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara (Bullis) Martin, of Lecanto, daughter and son-in-law, Lorri & Rick Markford, of Spring Hill, son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Shirley Martin, of Hawaii, daughter, Missy Wyzykowski, of Spring hill, daughter and fiancée, Marcy Paddock and Ron Todd, of Weeki Wachee, and son, Dennis Martin, Jr. of Spring Hill. Denny will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also, his sister and brother-in-law, Ginny and Bernie Schlameuss, of Chicago, IL, sister, Ruth Austin, of Spring Hill, and by his numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements and cremation are entrusted to the Turner Funeral Homes, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609. A memorial gathering will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 22, 2017, from 4-6 pm and the memorial service will be held at 6pm, with family members, Christopher Markford and Rick Markford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Denny’s memory may be made to the charity of ones’ choice.
