Dolores Jean Burdette was born March 12, 1929, and passed away quietly at Hubbard House on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Dolores was born and raised in Nitro, WV and graduated from Nitro High School. She attended Marshall University where she was a member of Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority. She graduated with a degree in Retail Marketing, and later returned to earn her Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She remained a true “Daughter of Marshall” her entire life.

Dolores was a teacher in Kanawha County for many years. She taught 2nd grade at Point Harmony Elementary and at Arthur I. Boreman Elementary in Cross Lanes before retiring in 1989. She was loved by the hundreds of students she taught over the years, especially those with special needs.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Bertha Steele Drake; sisters Catherine Drake, Geraldine Drake, Ruth Drake Gandee, and Phyllis Drake Yates; and her beloved granddaughter Elizabeth Jean Snyder.

Dolores is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Clarence Burdette; her daughter Jean Snyder and husband Steve of Kearneysville, WV; her son Edward Burdette and wife Sandra of Charleston, WV; her sister Carol Young and husband Charles of St. Albans, WV; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Friday, Nov. 11 at Cross Lanes United Methodist Church with interment following at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, WV.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Lanes United Methodist choir, or to the Elizabeth J. Snyder Scholarship Foundation at Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, WV.
