Don Hollis Berryhill, 91, of Vancouver Washington, passed away on September 15th. He was born in Gresham, Nebraska on June 29th, 1925. He joined the U.S. Navy at 17 and honorably served with the Armed Guard as a radioman in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He survived Kamikaze attacks at Leyte (Philippines) and received a Letter of Commendation from the Chief of Naval Personnel. He went on to graduate from Oregon State University in 1951. He married the love of his life, Evelyn, in 1950. After retiring as Area Superintendent for Del Monte in 1983, he volunteered for a variety of organizations including the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels, and also tutored children and adults to improve literacy skills. He was an avid history buff, woodworker, gardener and nature lover. He enjoyed hiking with his wife and also worked to restore and maintain hiking trails. He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn, children Kris Zorko (Bob), Dave Berryhill (Sue), Jim Berryhill and Carol Berryhill, as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a kind and knowledgeable man who lived his life with intention and purpose, and will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.
