Donald A. Conley, age 98 of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away quietly on Saturday April 1, 2017. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Apr. 11, 2017 at 3:00 pm, in the Magnolia Room of Magnolia Trace, Huntsville. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to The Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org).

Donald was born July 30, 1918, on a farm near Cheney, WA, to Roydal and Marie Conley. He grew up enjoying the outdoors and working on the family farm, where his parents grew wheat and raised cattle and chickens. He was a 4-year, 4-letter athlete at Cheney High School, and his skill on the baseball field earned him a minor league tryout. He married Margaret Murray on June 4, 1942. He was a renaissance man, devoted husband and father. He worked as a draftsman at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA, during World War II in the early years of their marriage. They moved Richland, WA, in 1947 where he headed a Drafting Department at General Electric. After work and on weekends he and his wife worked side by side in their apple orchard near Benton City, WA. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and an accomplished bowler, once besting professional bowler Buzz Fazio 3 out of 4 games at the Richland Bowl.

After 18 months with the Apollo Support Program in Daytona Beach, FL, in 1964 he moved his family to Huntsville, to take advantage of the city’s growing space program. In his free time he enjoyed golf, notching several holes-in-one at Valley Hill Country Club, where he and Margaret were active members with many cherished friends. Donald was beloved by his grandchildren; annual family visits to Huntsville were considered the highlight of the summer by all and remain the source of cherished memories still discussed in vivid detail today, especially magic tricks in the family room, visits to his propeller repair shop - a business he bought after retiring from General Electric - and trips around the golf course in his golf cart. He was a tireless worker with great initiative and integrity, and a loving and tireless caregiver for his wife in her later years.

He is survived by his son, Richard (Linda) Geneseo, IL; grandsons, Marshal Conley (Jennifer), Geneseo, IL.; Stuart (Erin) and Andy (Lauren) Linscott, Seatlle, WA; granddaughters, Rachel Pratt (Andy), Colona, IL, and Melissa Hansen (Desmond), Seattle, WA; great grandsons, Carson, Austin, Harrison, Henry, Izaiah, and Oliver, and great granddaughters, Ella, Charlotte, and Lacey. He is also survived by ;others, his great friend, loyal companion and neighbor Albert Robinson and his very special care manager Jeanie Tauss of Caring Strategies. The family would also like to thank Hospice of North Alabama for their attentive and compassionate care.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roydal and Marie Conley; sister Mildred; brother Glen, wife Margaret, and his daughter, Susan Linscott (BIll).
