Donald F. Wathen, 85, of Bloomington died Friday, December 2, 2016 in Brown County Health and Living. He was born April 22, 1931 in Wayne Michigan to Vincent Wathen and Clara Kock Wathen. He was retired from Otis Elevator.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Esther Brosman Wathen; two daughters, Linda Kay Wathen and Dianna Lynn Freeman both of Bloomington; a granddaughter, Stacey Lynn Thomas and her husband Taylon of Spencer; three great grandchildren, Melleah Thomas, Tanner Thomas and Damien Thomas; a brother, Bill Wathen of Avon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Peggy Elaine Wathen; a brother, Cameron Wathen; and two sisters, Delores Anderson and Dorothy Smith.
Donald was a member of the Bridge Church of Christ in Unionville. He attended Southern Illinois University prior to his service with the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War. After settling in Bloomington he worked briefly at Sarkes Tarzian before joining Otis Elevator where he was a Test Controller. As a general all around handyman he was constantly working around the house either on his cars, the house itself or his yard. He also enjoyed wood working, hiking, camping and playing with his dog, Belle.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third ST, with Pastor Russell Minett officiating. Entombment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the funeral home.
