Donald G. Paulson, age 97, passed away on April 12, 2017 at Mirabella in Portland.

Don was born May 17, 1919, in Grove City, Minnesota. After graduating from Grove City High School in 1937, he attended the University of Minnesota to study accounting. In 1941, Don was offered a job with Atlas Logging in Chehalis, Washington. Don seized the opportunity and moved west, where he met and married his wife, Helen, in November, 1941.

Don enjoyed a long and successful career in the timber products industry, working first for Atlas Logging/Diamond Lumber for 25 years and another 25 years at Alpine Veneers. In 1989, Don retired from Alpine Veneers, after serving as the company’s Chief Financial Officer for the last decade of his career. Don remained active following retirement, meeting regularly with his Forest Grove morning coffee group and spending time at the Octagon house in Seaside, Oregon.

Music was an important part of Don’s life. He sang with the Forest Grove Gleeman/Westside Singers for over 65 years, including two singing tours of Europe. He also served as the General Chairman of the All Northwest Barbershop Ballad Contest for 42 years.

Don was a true gentleman, whose kindness, warmth, and wit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Don is preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen of 60 years. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn, and four nieces. A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 6th, 2017 at the Forest Grove United Methodist Church, 1726 Cedar St. Forest Grove, Oregon.
