Donald Grills New London – Donald K. Grills, January 29th 1941 - March 30th 2015. He has many titles: Son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, husband, dad, daddy, papa, and friend. He lived for and loved his wife, children, friends and especially grandchildren. Don is in our hearts and memories forever. He was born in New London, the son of the late Harry and Mary Aguiar Grills. He was united in marriage for 54 years to the former Lee Ann Wilkie on February 4 1961 at Saint Joseph Church in New London. Don spent his entire career in the service industry, initially working with his father at NL TV and Appliance, then with HELCO / CLandP and finally with the Yankee Gas Co. He was also in the Coast Guard Reserves for 8 years. In 2004 he retired to enjoy his garden, family, grandchildren and friends. Don was an avid sports fan. He coached and followed his kids, as well as his grandchildren, in all their efforts on the ball fields and on the mats. The NY Yankees were at the top of his pro team list to be followed by Patriot's, and UCONN boys and girls basketball teams. Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by his 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. His children include: Daughter Donnette (William) Cullen from Montville; Sons Keith (Lynn) from Waterford, Dennis (Rebecca) from Mystic, Jeffery from Newport RI, Curtis (Tiffany) from Virginia Beach VA, and Gerald from New London. He will also be missed by his pet dog Babe. He was predeceased by a son Brian Grills. Don also leaves a brother Robert Grills of New London, and two brother-in-laws Skip and Glenn (Sharon) Wilkie of Waterford. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 pm on Monday April 6 at the funeral home. The funeral will assemble at 12:45 pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from the Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave New London at 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph, Squire Street, New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. Donations in his name can be made to Saint Joseph's School in New London, and/or St Bernard's in Uncasville, Ct.
