Don Weaver, age 86, of Grinnell, died on Monday, June 19, 2017, at his home in Grinnell under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 23rd in the Lakeview Section of Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church in Newburg.

Memorials may be designated to Grinnell Regional Hospice and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Donald Laval Weaver was born on April 13, 1931, in Grinnell, Iowa to Howard Calvin Weaver and Lottie Blanche (Adams) Weaver. He was raised on the family farm near Newburg, Iowa and graduated from Newburg High School with the class of 1949.

Don was united in marriage to Doris Vande Kamp on August 5, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple was blessed with four children, Belinda, Michael, Pamela and Paula. They farmed in the Newburg area for over 50 years and were life-long members of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, where Don served as a trustee. He was a member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge and Farm Bureau.

Don was an outdoorsman who loved farming and tending to his garden and yard. He was a master woodworker and spent countless hours making grandfather clocks, decorations, and furniture. He will be remembered for his kind, gentle way, his infectious smile, and for the strong love he held for his family.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Weaver of Grinnell; daughters, Belinda (Fred) Michael of Iowa City, Iowa, and Pamela (James) Johnson of Grinnell; son, Michael (Melissa) Weaver of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Paula Anderson in 2009; and siblings, Delbert Weaver, Doyle Weaver, and Viola Sleeuwenhoek.
