Donna Lee Treon, daughter of Edmund Freed and Bessie Olive (Watson) Hopkins, was born in Guthrie County, Iowa on April 3, 1934. She attended country schools in both Adair and Guthrie Counties, and is a graduate of Guthrie Center High School.
Donna and her son Randy wed the love of her life, Richard Carol Treon on September 23, 1960. Their life together began in Des Moines, Iowa, but many adventures were ahead for them. The next 6 years would bring them blessings of 3 more children, Pam, Rick, and Annette. They soon moved their family to a larger home in Adel, Iowa, where Donna helped Dick learn the 'country' way of life. This included gardening, raising animals, milking a cow, and enjoying life.
In 1969 they moved their family of 6 to Rogers, Arkansas. They owned and operated a small country grocery store, serving neighbors, friends, and all who came to the area to enjoy the pleasures of Beaver Lake. In 1975 they purchased a small acreage 5 miles west of Bentonville, Arkansas. Donna lived there under after the death of Dick, then moved to Bentonville to live out her remaining days.
Throughout the years, Donna worked various jobs and in 1976 she began what was to become a career with the Rogers Public Schools that would span the next 36 years. Donna quickly became the head secretary at Oakdale Junior High and spent the next 18 years in this position. In 1995 Donna decided that it was time to retire and enjoyed her summer off. In September, however, she decided she wasn't really ready to stop working completely and returned to 'her kids' at school, working another 17 years as a lunch room monitor at Westside Elementary School. At the young age of 79, Donna decided it was time to fully retire and begin enjoying more time with family and friends.
Donna departed this world on April 9, 2017, looking forward to reuniting with those who had gone before her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; her son, Randall; and siblings, James Hopkins, Duane Hopkins, Larry Hopkins, Marjorie Petersen, and Clara Harnack. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Treon of Frederick, Md.; daughter, Pamela Baker and husband Bill of Jane, Mo.; son, Richard Treon and wife Tammy of Ozone, Ark.; daughter, Annette Robertson and husband Steve of Jay, Okla.; sister, Mary Lou Hoover of Guthrie Center, Iowa; brother, Gary Hopkins of Chapparal, NM; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
