Doris A. Whitcomb ORANGE- Doris Anna (Hayden) Whitcomb, 90, formerly of Orange, died on Wednesday afternoon, November 17, 2010 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol, following an illness. Born on May 14, 1920 in New Salem, she was a daughter of Clarence and Edith Hayden and lived all her life in Orange. She went to work at Orange Manufacturing Company on East Main Street, Orange, in October, 1938 and worked 43 years for the same shop, the last name of it being Mohawk Manufacturing. Doris was a stitcher until 1974 and then became Supervisor until the shop closed in 1981. Doris joined the Millers River Grange on October 17, 1936 and had 25 years until it closed, having served as Ceves and Lady Assistant Steward, and enjoyed the grange tremendously. She also belonged to the Rebekah Lodge until that closed also. A member of the Orange Senior Citizens Club since 1985, Doris also was a member of the Swift River Historical Society in New Salem. Doris had lived at King James Court in Orange since October 24, 1983. Survivors include her twin sister, Doreen McCobb of Orange; nieces and nephews as well as grandnephews and grandnieces. Doris was predeceased by a brother, Elwyn Hayden in 2008. Visitation will be held Saturday morning, November 20, 2010 from 10-10:30 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, November 20th at 10:30 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home in Orange, with Rev. Meredith Anderson, Interim Pastor of the First Universalist Church in Orange officiating. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Gardner VNA, 32 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the First Universalist Church, 31 North Main Street, Orange, MA 01364.
