Doris C. Hendricks, age 90, of Bloomington, died Saturday afternoon at Bell Trace Health and Living Center. Doris was born July 1, 1925 in Belle Center, Ohio, the daughter of Martin and Ethel (Ruble) Corwin. Doris worked at R.C.A. during W.W. II, as a housewife and then finished her working career as a nurse's aide at the former Bloomington Convalescent Center. She had been active doing volunteer work for I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospice and as a long time and faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She attended classes at I.U. when she was 56 ½ years old. She loved nature and was very passionate about feeding songbirds and caring for her cats and dogs. She also had a passion for music, especially classical music, and reading. She served as a fine friend to neighbors and to her immediate family as well as other relatives. She had a special place in her heart for the state of Ohio and for Indiana University. While growing up in Ohio she wanted to take Spanish classes but Latin was only offered and she wanted to play the clarinet, but because of family finances had to take piano lessons instead.
She is survived by her son, Steven L. Hendricks, of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hendricks, one son, Don Hendricks, one sister, Marie Bryant and seven brothers, Harold, Lloyd, Thomas, Charles, Donald, Boyd and Arthur Corwin.
There will be a memorial Celebration of Life Service at St. Paul United Methodist Church; 4201 W. Third St.; Bloomington at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 9 with Rev. Dr. David Mullens officiating. Friends may gather at the church on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
