Doris E Agen (nee Maher ), 101, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Huron.

She was born August 20, 1916 in Bliss, NY and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 57 years moving from Western New York.

Doris worked for Dr. John Stack in Vermilion as a Dental Assistant and had also worked as a cashier for stores including Doc Jeffery's A&P Store. During WWII, Doris worked for Bell Aircraft Co. in Buffalo, NY. When pressed, she would say that she wasn't "Rosie the Riveter", but worked beside her.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she had been a special minister of communion for 15 years and had been a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a former member of the Vermilion Business and Professional Women's Association, and had been a member of the senior bowling league in Vermilion. She had enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and traveling.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Marie Catherine Agen of Vermilion and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Agen in 1975; parents, William Timothy and Myrtle Rebecca (nee Bently) Maher; and her sisters, Madeline Campbell, Monica Maher, and Patricia Roberts.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 from 4 pm until the time of a Christian Wake Service at 7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
