Doris Marie Pritchett Durrer, age 77, of Barboursville, Virginia was received into heaven on Saturday, May 6, 2017. We shall miss our mother whose kind spirit guided us through the years. Her life, good deeds, and generous heart will continue to shine on those left behind.

Doris was born on February 11, 1940, the daughter of the late Ellis Winston Pritchett and Wilma Birckhead Pritchett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry Edward “Ed” Durrer; brothers, Carl Pritchett, Eugene Pritchett, Calvin Pritchett, Charles Pritchett, Hoy Pritchett, and Clyde “Pete” Pritchett; sisters, Nina Dulaj and Leonia Cox; and a great-grandson, Noah Patrick O’Cull.

She is survived by her two daughters, Ramona Durrer Freeman and her husband, Tim Freeman of Tucson, Arizona and Wilma Durrer Locke and her husband, Jerre Locke of Yadkinville, North Carolina; three grandsons, Timothy O’Cull of Baltimore Maryland, Jason O’Cull of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Eric Freeman of Tucson, Arizona; a granddaughter, Nicole Freeman of Tucson Arizona; two great grandsons, Joshua O’Cull, and Aiden O’Cull of Carlisle Pennsylvania; and four sisters, Darlene Pritchett, Jearl Pritchett Durrer, Virginia Tooley Shifflett, and Brenda Cheves.

Doris was retired from Belk after thirty years of service. She received many awards throughout her employment and treasured the friendships with the people there. She enjoyed watching movies, reading, and spending special moments with her grandchildren.

Special appreciation goes out to her sister Jearl who helped our mom throughout her illness. Her daughters will be forever grateful.

Mom, you will forever be in your daughters’ hearts and we will never forget the generosity and life’s lessons. Our gratitude is unsurpassed for all you provided and continued to teach us though out the years. When you closed your eyes and soared to heaven, we could hear the faint flutter of your wings as you departed.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Teague Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive family and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Teague Funeral Home.
