Dorma Jean Fields, 88, of Charleston, WV, passed away August 16, 2016. She was born in Charleston on November 27, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Tillis and Elsie Tillis Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Richard “Dick” Fields, four brothers; Clayton, Raymond, Donald and Chester Tillis, one beloved sister, Gwen Tillis Faulknier. Dorma Jean is survived by her daughter, Kathy Fields Creel, her husband, Gary, grandson, Derek Creel, granddaughter Bethany Creel Fuller, her husband, Chris and great granddaughters Katie Beth and Ellie Fuller all of Atlanta, Georgia. Also surviving are her two sons; Richard L. Fields, his wife, Willa and grandsons Colin and Dylan Fields all of Pacific Palisades, CA and son, Donald Fields of Charleston. Also surviving are several loved nieces and nephews.

Dorma Jean graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1945 and then attended Western Union School in Washington, New Jersey. She worked for several years at the Western Union in Charleston but her most loved career was with the Kanawha County School System where she worked at Lincoln Junior High School for over 25 years.

She attended Emanuel Baptist Church from the age of 8 and was baptized there in 1958. She was a member of the church choir for many years and she truly loved her ladies Sunday School Class.

From December, 2010, until June, 2016, Dorma Jean resided at The Benton House Assisted Living Community in Covington, GA, located near her daughter. Those five years were filled with many memorable events and family experiences, but rest assured everyone she met knew she was a West Virginian through and through. She returned to Charleston in June, 2016, as she stated, “I want to go home”. She passed away peacefully at the Transitional Care Unit of The Valley Center in South Charleston.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM (Family members welcome from 4:00 - 5:00) at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd., Cross Lanes, WV. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 23, at 1:00 PM at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home. Rev. Ronald Stoner will be officiating, interment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

The family would like to personally thank the staff at The Benton House of Covington, GA, the staff at The Valley Center of South Charleston, and Cat Cole, of Hurricane for all their love and support.
