Dorothy Allis Gebbie passed away October 22, 2017, at Springmoor's Stewart Health Center. She was surrounded by her loving family and devoted caregivers.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Vivian Allis, her brother, William Eugene Allis, and her sister, Helen McMillin Bovee.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Gebbie, and four children: Jimmy Gebbie, of Raleigh, David Gebbie (Deborah), of Asheville, NC; Jack Gebbie (Myra), of Greensboro, NC, and Janet Edgerton (Daniel), of Raleigh. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Matthew Gebbie (Allison), Benjamin Gebbie, Emily Gebbie, and Sarah Gebbie, and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born in Anderson, IN, and married John Gebbie in 1956. In 1957 they moved to Raleigh. Dorothy was a schoolteacher; a homemaker; an active volunteer, including with Young Life and as a teacher of English as a second language; and she also worked for a time in the Physics Dept. at NCSU. She was a long-time active member of Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy was a woman of strong faith, quiet determination, and unwavering love for her family, neighbors and friends.

The family is especially grateful to Dorothy's wonderful caregivers at Springmoor, including Albertina, Cierra, Cynthia, Herrin, Juwan, Lorna, Rollina, Sheila, and Seema. Misty and Sylvia brightened her final days there as well.

A memorial service will be held at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Raleigh on Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet visitors immediately following the service at a reception in the Church Fellowship Hall.
