Dorothy "Dottie" Pelkey, 79, resident of Centreville, VA, passed peacefully at Fair Oaks Hospital on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, after a brief illness. Dottie was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated from Jefferson High School. Before her retirement in 1999, she worked for Verizon as a Customer Care Representative.
She was the youngest of three daughters born to Charles and Mary Alice Shipman of Roanoke. She was the beloved wife of Allison Pelkey for nearly 59 years. She was also a devoted mother to five sons, Allison David, Charles (Sue), Ronald (Marie), Barry (Debbie) and Christopher (Tina). Dottie has eighteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know her. She is preceded in death by her son, Ronald, and sisters, Edie Jones and Audrey Chesnut.
Dottie touched the lives of many people and will be remembered fondly for her kind heart, strong spirit and great laugh. Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, September 1, from 1PM to 5PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at 5PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the INOVA Health Foundation.
