Thompson, Dorothy (Brecht), age 90, of Beavercreek, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Greenwood Manor. She was born in Dayton on March 22, 1927 to Wilfred and Leota Brecht, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Becky Buchanan and her husband, James E. Thompson. She grew up in Belmont on Kennedy Avenue, attended Belmont School and graduated from Stivers High School, Class of 1945. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Roger) Kirk, of Jamestown, OH and Laura Hatfield, of Rock Holds, KY; grandsons, Matthew R. Kirk, Rob (Melissa) Kirk, James (Marcia) Livingston; granddaughter, Tammy (Doug) Braden; six great grandchildren, Nathan Kirk, Noah Kirk, MacKenzie Kirk, Mason Kirk, Christy McTaggart, Daniel Livingston and two great great grandchildren, Ashton Livingston and James Ryan McTaggart. Dorothy was a life long member of Hope United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW 8312, where she has been chaplain and cancer chairman for many years. She was a member of the Belmont Historical Society. She was on the committee to build a Veterans Memorial in Beavercreek and donated generously in memory of her late husband, James E. Thompson. Dottie loved gardening and taking care of her flowers. She made the wedding cakes for all of her grandchildren's weddings. Dorothy was a very caring and loving woman and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road with Reverend Tory Powers-Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
