Dorothy Jean Lyans, 92, was born on August 5, 1924, in Glendale, California. Her parents had recently moved to California from Rockland, Idaho and her father opened a meat market on the corner of Chevy Chase and Verdugo Blvd. Dorothy attended Doran Elementary School, Wilson Junior High and Glendale High School. After high school she studied at Sawyer Business College, Occidental College, Brigham Young University and California State College, Los Angeles. She also worked at Walt Disney Studios during World War 2. After the war she met a returning naval aviator, John Robert Lyans, and they were married at the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn, Glendale in 1946. They established their family and lived in Glendale, Sunland and La Canada. Dorothy continued her education and later became a teacher. She retired from the Alhambra School district where she was working with hearing impaired students.

Dorothy was known for her outgoing nature and she made friends wherever she went and was loved by many. She passed away on February 1, 2017. after a short illness. She is survived by her children, two sons and two daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 2015. Services will be held in the chapel where she was married, the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn, on Friday. February 10, 2017 at 10:00 am. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.
