Dorothy Marie Hilyard



Born Dorothy Marie Bartley December 13th, 1917 in Denver Colorado to Vern W. Bartley and Marie Butman. Dorothy graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1935. Dorothy worked in the Fairfax bomber plant during WWII. She then lived in California, Texas and Florida before returning to Kansas City where she and her sister Helen Hulsey were Co-owners of the Designer’s Dress Shops in Fairway and Lenexa where they operated successfully for many years and enjoyed traveling the world together. After selling the business, she moved to Parkville where she worked until retirement for Marty’s Bar-B-Q. For the past 2 years, she has resided in the Northland with her niece Jean Tamburello. Dorothy is preceded in death by her Parents, Vern and Marie Bartley, her Sister Helen Hulsey and brother Kenneth Bartley. She is survived by her Brother Max Bartley of Laurie, Missouri and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was a member of the Northland Cathedral, past member of the North Kansas City Women’s Breakfast Club, The Red hats, and the Chamber of Commerce.



A visitation will be held Tuesday May 2 from 6 -8pm at White Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at White Chapel Funeral Home Wednesday May 3 at 10 am with committal immediately following.
