Dorothy Phillips Hudson passed away peacefully in her sleep July 5th at an assisted living facility in Tampa at the end of a complete life of 92 years.

Best known as Dottie, Dorothy was born in Tampa on March 26th, 1925 to Dorothy Priest Phillips and Peyton E. Phillips Jr. She graduated from H.B Plant High School in 1943 and went on to attend Florida State College for Women, now FSU. She developed lifelong friendships at FSCW, where she was active in the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

She began working in Tampa at radio station WDAE where her Uncle Spencer Mitchell was the first President of Broadcasters for the State of Florida. She was married to Wilfred Hudson at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Tampa in June of 1949. They enjoyed the social scene of Tampa in their early years and began raising a family with the birth of William in 1952 and Robert in 1958. Dottie remained active in various civic organizations including the Tampa Women’s Club and Garden Club. She was also an endeared kindergarten teacher at the Jewish Community Center but focused her passion on raising her two sons as a dedicated loving mother.

Dottie was a loving wife and devoted to Wilfred who passed away in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Betty Osborn. She is survived by her beloved niece Genie Osborn, her two sons “Bill” and “Bob”, Bob’s wife Debi, 5 grandchildren, Christine, William Jr., Sarah, Kyle, Kaylyn, and 2 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Angelina.

Dottie was often called upon to take care of elderly relatives and did so with love and grace. She was key to the foundation of her family and will be remembered most for her encouraging positive outlook on life and her gracious good nature.
