With both sadness and gratitude, we must announce the passing of our dear mother, Dorothy Pauline Clayton, a long-time resident of the Mt. Rainier/Hyattsville area and more recently a resident of Shady Side, MD. Mrs. Clayton passed on Friday, June 2, at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD after a few years of poor health.

A devout Catholic with a strong work ethic, Mrs. Clayton was devoted to her family and friends. She was born on April 5, 1923 to Edward Thomas and Louise A. O'Dea and lived on M St. SE in Washington, DC. She married George F. Clayton in 1942 and moved to MD and raised her family. She worked for many years at various businesses in the Hyattsville area retiring from McGraw Hill. To know Mrs. Clayton was to love her. She loved her community at Friendship Arms Senior Apts. in Hyattsville, and more recently her Anne Arundel county friends from Annapolis to Shady Side.

Mrs. Clayton is survived by her children, Haven (Cookie) Mincey, Kathleen McCoy and Tracy VanLeeuwen, and a favorite son-in-law Karl VanLeeuwen; grandchildren Tammy Clayton (Rob), Dawn Oler (Brian), Becky McCoy, John McCoy (Tylene), Crystal Mincey (Bernie), Melissa McCoy (Justin), and Eric VanLeeuwen (Laura); and great grandchildren Alexa, Austin, Hailey and Luke McCoy, Dylan and Katie Oler, and Chloe Tupik. Mrs. Clayton was predeceased by her husband George, her only son George and another favorite son-in-law Luke.
