THOMPSON, Dorothy Katherine 91, life-long resident of Dayton, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 10, 2016. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Richard E. Thompson and her parents Robert & Artie (nee Landis) Zizert. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, David & Colleen Thompson of NY, Douglas Thompson & Janice Maiola of MN. Also surviving are her grandchildren Sean Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Ellen Thompson (husband Jacob Siegel) and Greg Thompson. Dorothy was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church for over 80 years where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing in 1946 and remained licensed as an RN for over 60 years. Dorothy started as a nurse at Miami Valley Hospital and after an interlude as a devoted mother served for 10 years as the Community Health Nurse at the Dayton Senior Citizen's Center. She served as a Volunteer at Hospice for 30 years, and at Fairview Elementary School for 20 years. She has received numerous awards as a church and community volunteer. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME ENGLEWOOD CHAPEL, 675 West Wenger Road, Friday, March 18, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. There will also be a gathering at FAIRVIEW UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 828 Fairview Avenue, Dayton, Saturday, March 19, 2016 starting at 10:00 am followed by a Celebration of Dorothy's life at 11:00 am with Pastor Barbara Wiechel presiding. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
