Dorothy Tidwell Townsend, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
Mrs. Townsend was born on April 17, 1929 in Cartersville, GA, daughter of the late Buford Tidwell and Pauline Branton Tidwell.
Mrs. Townsend and her loving husband of sixty-two years, Herbert Townsend, owned and operated Townsend Supply Company for twenty years. She also owned several other businesses in Cartersville throughout her life. For the past sixteen years, she owned Step By Step Infant Development Center and was influential in many children's lives. She was well known for her delicious coconut cakes that she baked for several churches around town. Her true passion was spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith and a proud member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Townsend; son, Terry Randall Townsend.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie (Larry) Highfield; grandchildren, Landon (Lori) Sutton, Brett (Brittany) Sutton, Nicole (Jeremy) Padgett, Jacquelyn (David) Jolly and Wayne (Jaqueline) Highfield; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Griffin Tidwell, Clarence (Dee) Tidwell and Earl (Jean) Tidwell; sister, Margaret Fowler; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at three-thirty in the afternoon on Saturday, the 27th of May, 2017 at Creekside Fellowship Church with Rev. Mike Abernathy officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until eight on Friday the 26th of May, 2017 at Owen Funeral Home.
