Dorothy Winstead "Dot" Franklin, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born June 9, 1922 in Nash County to the late George Clifton Winstead and Bettie Lee Morgan Winstead. After high school Dot received a teaching degree from Meredith College. She married the late, William Smith Franklin in 1943. Most of her adult life was spent in Raleigh caring for her family. As long as her health permitted, she was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughters: Nancy F. Edwards (Robert) of Zebulon, Linda F. Griffin (Robby) of Youngsville, and Carol Jean Franklin of Raleigh; grandchildren: William Robert Griffin, Molly Paige Edwards, and Christopher Thomas Griffin.
The funeral service will held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 7, 2014 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3120 New Hope Road, Raleigh, NC 27604 with Reverend David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Healthpark, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615 in memory of the late, William Smith Franklin.
