Dorthea A. Lauritzen, 89, passed away May 7. Dorthea was born October 24, 1927, in Bensonville, Illinois. Shortly afterwards her family moved to Des Plaines, Illinois, where she graduated from Maine Township High School, married Walter Lauritzen and in 1964 relocated to Raytown with her family. Dorthea loved entertaining her friends and family, always paying attention to the little details that made an occasion extra special. She was a loving spouse and parent who encouraged her children to be independent. Dorthea enjoyed working in her flower gardens and made beautiful arrangements from their abundant blooms. She also enjoyed traveling, music, particularly musicals, crafting ceramics which she freely offered to family and friends, playing cards, crossword puzzles and history, whether it was reading books or visiting museums. She lovingly showed off Kansas City’s attractions to any and everyone who came to visit. Over the years Dorthea volunteered as a leader for both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, served as an election official and Sunday school teacher. She also held positions as a secretary, librarian and retired as a bank teller from UMB Bank. Dorthea was preceded in death by her husband Walter and her great-grandson Gabriel. She is survived by son Chuck Lauritzen and his wife Barbara, daughter Carol Perry and her husband Bill, grandchildren Sarah, Katy, Emily, Michael, Rob and Rachel and great-grandchildren Myles, Danielle, Daniel, and Betsy. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association. Arr: Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133. On-line condolences may be left at
