Douglas Delace Carrier, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Doug was born on August 19, 1936 in Beulah, Michigan to Earl D. Carrier and Margret I. (Knudsen) Carrier. Doug lived in many small towns in Michigan during his early years but settled in Shelby and worked at Shelby Sawmill for several years. In 1970 he was proud to welcome his only child Mardean in the world. Later Doug went to work at Sealed Power (Dana Corp.) in Muskegon. He always said he wanted to work into his seventies, but unfortunately due to an accident at work, he was forced to retire early. Doug was very active in his church for many years. He was the top "salesman" when they sold caramel corn and peanut brittle. He sold hundreds of bags every year. In his younger years, he loved to fish and enjoyed old cars. He loved his brothers and sisters. Doug also liked going to Johnny and Lucy's to visit. He loved family reunions and spending time with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He liked "scratch off" lottery tickets, Pepsi, hard candy and a good cup of coffee. Most of all he loved his family, church and God. He will be deeply missed. Doug is survived by his daughter, Mardean (Mike) Hindman; grandchildren, Douglas (Aaron) Benavides, Katrina Benavides, Gerardo (Jerry) Benavides Jr., and Heather Benavides; great-grandson, Brently Benavides; step-children, Faith (Merle) Cram, Doyle (Dee) Burmeister Sr., Sharita (Gary) Prowant, Diana Robinson; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny (Lucy) and Earl (Carolyn); sisters, Vera, Joan, Helen, Margaret (Margie), Carolyn, Ruthie (David) and Gladys (David); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rachel and Nellie; brothers, Donald, Gene and Judd; step-son, Shayne Burmeister; and son-in-law, Gerardo (Jerry) Benavides Sr. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 1 pm at Harris Funeral Home, Shelby, MI with Pastor Tony Holmes-Curran and Rev. Earl Carrier officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service. A luncheon will follow the service at New Hope Community Church.
