Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 1, 2017 at James Memorial Baptist Church for Douglas M. Weems, age 79, of Gadsden, who passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Brothers Vince Whittington, James Sampley, Bill Abbott, and Mike Allums will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services announcing.
Mr. Weems was a disabled Vietnam Veteran having served twenty years in the Army and one year in the National Guard. Doug retired as an E8 First Sergeant. After retiring he returned to school and then became the owner of Gadsden Sew and Vac. Doug was a Christian man who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a Deacon and loved taking care of many things in the church he loved, including finances and signs. He loved and respected all of his friends and his country. Doug was proud to serve his country.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, A.E. and Nell Weems; parents-in-law, Buster and Ann Jolly; and siblings, Wanda Ray, Jimmy Weems, Tom Weems, and George Weems.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Weems; daughters, Cynthia Horton, Cathy (Steve) Garrett, and Christie (Brian) Tidwell; grandchildren, Bruce, Mandy (Justin), Meredith, Rebekah, Ragan, Karly, and Madison; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, or James Memorial Baptist Church Youth Group.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-1:00 pm Saturday at the church prior to the service.
