Douglas Rodney Meyer of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Born on September 2, 1954 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Louis Isadore Meyer, Sr. and May (Roscher) Meyer. He was a proud graduate of Holy Cross High School and then attended Southeastern Louisiana University. Loving husband of Mary Maher Meyer and devoted father to Tracey DeSoto (Tillman), Douglas II and Valerie; and one grandchild Tessa, who she lovingly called “Bun.” Douglas is the brother of Louis Meyer, Jr. and Janet Meyer Meyaski; and also leaves behind brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Claire Meyer Maitre and Donald Meyer, Sr.
Douglas was a stevedore employed by Ports America Louisiana Inc., is a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association 1497, and Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Janssens Council 3068. He loves all things involving history, New Orleans Saints and the New York Yankees. Douglas also loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and spending time in his garage. He enjoyed attending festivals, estate sales, early morning breakfasts, endless car rides, and taking his family on vacations.
Douglas’ family would like to send their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Robert Veith for caring for Douglas for 20 years. Also, thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at East Jefferson General Hospital for their kindness and patience.
