Douglass Tharrington Chandler, 92, of Raleigh, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.

Born on August 24, 1924 in Durham, NC, Douglass was the daughter of the late Perry R. and Jessie P. Tharrington. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Drury B. Chandler and her sister, Nadine T. Jones. Douglass was loved by her sons Jimmy and Mike, Mike's family, her relatives in Durham, NC and her friends.

Douglass graduated from Hope Valley High School in Durham NC in May 1942. She married D. B. in March 1943. During her career as a secretary and administrative assistant, she worked at the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill, NC, Department of Motor Vehicles and N.C. Highway Patrol at the Troop C Headquarters in Raleigh, NC. After leaving the Highway Patrol, she worked for Dan Bohler Insurance in Raleigh, NC, and the rental offices for the Wedgewood and Raleigh Apartments, Kip-Dell Homes and the Shire Apartments in Raleigh, NC.

Originally Douglass was a member of Yates Baptist Church in Durham, NC. After moving to Raleigh, NC, she became a member of Westover United Methodist Church.

Douglass was an animal lover - especially cats and dogs. She loved working in the yard on her flowers and spending time with family, particularly her grandchildren. She also enjoyed being at Atlantic Beach and Lake Gaston. Douglass was a lifetime fan of the sports teams at Duke University and enjoyed watching ACC football and basketball games.

Douglass is survived by her son Jimmy, her son Mike and his wife Diana, her three grandchildren, Meredith, Kevin, Sarah and her husband Brian Peterson. She is also survived by her brother Ricky and his wife Jewel from Durham, NC. She has one niece, 2 nephews and 2 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street in Raleigh, NC from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday July 2. A graveside funeral service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh at 11:00 am on Monday July 3.

The family wants to express their gratitude to all of Wanda's Caregivers and the staff at Waltonwood Senior Assisted Living Facility in Cary, NC for taking care of Douglass during her time at Waltonwood. The family also wants to express their appreciation to Dr. William Dunlap, the staff at The Oaks at Whitaker Glen - Mayview in Raleigh, NC as well as the team from Transitions Lifecare/Hospice of Wake County for taking care of Douglass during her time at Mayview.
