Duayne Ray Mendenhall died peacefully on December 7, 2017 in North Kansas City, MO at the age of 90.


Duayne was born on July 16, 1927 in Bucklin, MO to Ray & Marjorie Mendenhall. He enlisted into the Merchant Marines at age 16, specializing in Mechanical Engineering. He later completed his GED. After moving to Kansas City, KS, Duayne began his 37 year career at Owens-Corning Fiberglas as a stationary/lead engineer. He married Dorothy Gladbach, and the couple had 6 children. His children remember him as a kind, funny and driven father. He was a witty individual who loved being outdoors in the sunshine, boating, fishing and golfing. He was passionate about sports, and involved in the music industry as well.


Duayne is preceded in death by: Son, Joseph Henry Mendenhall of Kansas City, MO. Father & Mother, Cecil Ray & Marjorie Mendenhall of Marceline, MO. Sisters, Deoma Schnoor of Washington, D.C. and Reve' Rooney of Kansas City, MO. Grandson, Jeffrey Ray Mendenhall of Kansas City. Son-In-Law, Jim Cox of Kansas City, MO.


Duayne is survived by: Daughter, Melinda Cox of Kansas City, MO. Son, Steve Mendenhall of Gladstone MO. Sons & Daughter-In-Laws, Terry & Kathy Mendenhall of Kansas City, MO and Scott & Darcy Mendenhall of Platte City, MO. Daughter & Son-In-Law, Elaine & Darrell Hute of Lincoln, NE. Sister, Mayota Ross of Broken Arrow, OK.. Long-time friend, Georgia Cross of Kansas City, MO. Duayne has 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.


Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 14, from 6 - 8 p.m., and 10 - 11 a.m. on December 15. Funeral/Graveside Burial is scheduled for December 15, at 11 a.m. Both are at White Chapel Funeral Home & Cemetery in Gladstone, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to North Care Hospice House, 2800 Clay Edwards Dr. 2nd Floor, North Kansas City, MO 64116. The family would like to thank these wonderful caregivers for their dedication and talent.
