Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. E.L. Lovelady, age 89, of Rainbow City, who passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Rev. Robert Thornton will officiate. Burial will be at Moon Cemetery, Owens Crossroads, AL. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Lovelady was born and raised in Clay County, AL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. . After the Navy, he graduated from St. Bernard Prep School and then he began his career as a Sharecropper and later owned and operated Madison County Propane. He was a Mason and active in his community. He was a board member of Alabama L.P. Gas Association. Mr. Love lady loved to travel, fish, dance, and was a great storyteller. E.L. had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He enjoyed writing poems and he had 3 chapters of childhood memories published in the book "Voices of Alabama". He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Ellis Lovelady; father, Wordlaw Lovelady; mother, Tava Smith Lovelady; and brother, Laudress Lovelady.
Mr. Lovelady is survived by his wife, Joyce Lovelady; son, Michael (Diane) Lovelady; daughters, Sandra (Ronnie) Whitaker, Cindy (Tricy) Doran, and Mary (Eddie) Lossiah; brothers, Edwin D. (Dolly) Lovelady, and Doyle Lovelady; sister, Gloria Smith; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Preston Whitaker, Jim Lovelady, Tysce Green, Lynn Lovelady, Greg Lovelady, and Donald Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Whitaker, Edward Lossiah, and Tricy Doran.
Special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice and the staff at the VA Hospital in Guntersville.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
