Ed Ambrister went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 16, 2017 in his home in Fort Worth, Texas.



Edmund Gillespie Ambrister was born June 25, 1926 to Samuel and Etta Ambrister in Norman, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of their eight children. After graduating from high school in 1944, he enlisted in the army, serving in the Philippines during WWII. After enrolling in the University of Oklahoma, he was called to active duty in 1950 during the Korean War, serving as 1st Leuitenant and stationed in Korea. He received a BBA degree from Oklahoma University and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. On June 24, 1956, he married Carolyn Sue Downs and they had three children. He worked for the 3M Co until 1964 when he and his wife opened Ambrister’s Hardware in Fort Worth, Texas. The store served the community for 38 years and at the time of its closing was the largest independent hardware store in Fort Worth. Ed served as a president of the Fort Worth South Rotary Club and for many years was president of the Wedgwood Merchants Association. He also served as a deacon, elder, and trustee in his home church, Southwest Christian Church. He was a talented craftsman and made many beautifully detailed crosses, ornaments, and toys for sale and gifts to family and friends.



He is predeceased by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.



Ed left a legacy of humility, love, wisdom, integrity, hard work, humor, and creativity. Foremost, he left a legacy of faith in salvation through Christ alone. His favorite scripture is 1 John 5:12. He that hath the son hath life and he that hath not the son of God hath not life. Boomer Sooner! OKU!



He leaves his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Ambrister; his son, Eddie Ambrister; his daughters, Stephanie Hollis and Melissa Ross; son in laws Dallas Hollis and Robb Ross; his eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
