Edward F. Heckers, Jr., 71 years of age, of Queens, New York, passed away on January 1, 2014.
He was born in Queens Village, New York on December 22, 1942. Edward graduated from Van Buren High School in 1960 and joined the Navy. He worked the Engine Room on the U.S.S. Orion during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was very proud to be a part of the United States Navy.
Edward is survived by one daughter, Cory E. Campoli and one granddaughter, Alessandra Campoli.
"My grandfather was an amazing man. He was one of the biggest influences in my life. We had a relationship that is indescribable; I don't think it was possible for us to be any closer. I always looked up to him because of the way he carried himself. He always had so much grace and respect; he would never raise his voice or get angry. It amazed me that even though he was sick and on treatment he still got up every morning to go and teach kids how to play golf because he enjoyed them so much and he did not want to let them down. He was truly the most amazing pop-pop a girl could ever ask for. He showed up at every dance recital, every basketball game, if it was something for 'his girl' he was there with bells and whistles. It was truly an honor to be his granddaughter and there won't be a day that goes by that I don't think about or miss him."
