Edward J. Zimmerli 84, of Mayflower Drive, Keene, NH, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Cheshire Medical Center Dartmouth Hitchcock, Keene.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 24, 1933, the son of Edward J. and Natalie (Ogden) Zimmerli.

With a thirst for knowledge, Edward received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Union College in New York; a Master Degree in Geology from Cornell University; and a Master Degree in Theology from Union Seminary School in New York.

He resided in Scituate, Mass. for nineteen years. He later resided in Corvallis, Oregon before moving to Keene 20 years ago.

Edward worked as a trust officer with Fleet Bank of Boston for nineteen years.

His creative mind found him working magic with his hands, creating oil paintings and sketches; bird carvings in wood; and the carving of many model wooden ships.

He also used his creative mind putting words to paper as an accomplished poet, self-publishing his own book of poetry. He also enjoyed music.

While residing in Oregon, Ed founded The Oregon Pooled Special Needs Trust, an accomplishment which was close to his heart.

Edward was a former member of the United Church of Christ in Keene, and a member of the church's choir. He was also a very active member of the Keene Unitarian Universalist Church.

Edward will be greatly missed by many, especially his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth (Browne) Zimmerli of Keene; a son, Benjamin Zimmerli and his wife, Kim, of Lagrange, NY; a daughter, Laura Zimmerli of Keene; two grandsons, Thomas Zimmerli and Christopher Zimmerli of Lagrange; a brother, Robert Zimmerli of Arizona; a sister, Joan Schatz of California; a sister-in-law, Christina Browne of Concord, MA; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Zimmerli.

A memorial service and celebration of Edward's life will be held at a date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for those who wish, donations be made in Mr. Zimmerli's memory to the Hundred Nights Shelter, Inc., PO Box 833, Keene, NH 03431-0833, or to Monadnock Developmental Services, 121 Railroad Street, Keene, NH 03431.
