717 South restaurant lost a loyal patron on Sunday, June 4, 2017, when Edward Patrick Ryan – “Ed” - died peacefully at his home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Tampa, Florida. Born on June 2, 1943 to John Ryan and Kathryn (née McNerney) Ryan in Canandaigua, New York, Ed spent his formative years working at Ryan’s Oasis, his parents’ bar on Phoenix Street in Canandaigua. There, he learned the importance of treating people from all walks of life with equal respect and kindness, a trait he became known and admired for throughout his life. Ed was abundantly blessed with wit and candor, allowing him to comfortably engage in conversation in any setting.

Ed attended St. Mary’s School in Canandaigua and later graduated from Canandaigua Academy. He obtained a B.A. from St. Bonaventure University and an M.B.A. from American University. Ed’s 30 year career with the Xerox Corporation included stops in Washington D.C., Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, and Rochester, NY. At Xerox, Ed became a Senior Executive and made many lifelong friends, including his beloved wife Donna McAuley. Ed loved fishing in Canandaigua Lake, traveling with Donna, playing golf and poker, shooting pool and rooting for the Boston Red Sox and Celtics.

Ed is survived by his wife Donna, sisters Pat Budz and Carol Miller, brother Tim Ryan and his wife Carla, and six children and their spouses: Chris and Jenny Ryan, Shaun and Kate Ryan, Matt and Camila Ryan, Kevin and Jessie Ryan, Kelly and Jeff DesJardine, and James and Brittney McAuley. He also leaves 13 grandchildren: Patrick, Maggie, Ashley, Alexandra, and Brennan of Charlotte, NC; Katherine and Grady of Boston, MA; Jack, Matt, and Will of Charlotte, NC; Francisco of Ft. Myers, FL; and Margaux and Josephine of Tampa, FL.

Ed was predeceased by his cherished first wife Margaret “Maggie” (née Garvey) Ryan, mother of Chris, Shaun, Matt, and Kevin.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10:00 am EST, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33602, with a reception to follow.
