Edward Salone, 90, of Oneonta passed on to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Home Life at Folts in Herkimer.

He was born on July 31, 1926 in New York City, the son of John Solone and Anna Chipeha. He attended school in Brooklyn.

He married Virginia Craft in Brooklyn on July 3, 1945 and they later moved to the Oneonta area. He worked as a painter and was later promoted to supervisor of the paint shop at SUNY Oneonta. There, he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1986.

Ed was an avid golfer and belonged to the Woodhaven Golf Club. He also enjoyed bowling and the many bus trips he went on with his loving wife, Virginia. Ed and Ginny part of the original organizers of the Milford Junior Baseball Program of which he served as president. He was also an amateur cartoonist.

He and his wife purchased their home in Portlandville in 1967 and later moved to Oneonta in 2011.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

Edward is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 71 years, Virginia, of Oneonta, where they resided with their loving and loyal son, Jaime, and Ed's little protector and companion, Pooh; he is also survived by a daughter, Michele Salone of Virginia; a son, Jon Salone of Hudson Falls; a son Christopher Salone of Athol, Mass; 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Shannon, Teressa, Jaime Jr, Jordan, and Patrick, whom he adored; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister in law, Beverley Verry of Norwich; a special niece, Nancy Everetts of Rome, who visited him every week and was affectionately known as his Angel; as well as many additional nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Mark Frank Salone; a sister, Ann Paulsen of Florida; a brother, John of Arizona; a brother Raymond of Long Island; and a brother, William of NY and Florida.

At Ed's request, there will be no calling hours or formal service.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Milford Center Cemetery.

Donations in Edward's memory are asked to be made to the Milford Fire Department and Emergency Squad.
