Eileen Edith Silverie Whitney, a resident of Harcienda Carmel in Carmel, California, died at the age of 91. She was born June 27, 1925 to her parents, Sidney and Dorothy Barson, in Leicester, England. Her father was a Sargent Major in the Coldstream Guard for England and Eileen followed by becoming a part of the Woman's Land Army at 18. During World War II, she married a US GI, Daniel Silverie, Jr. A fabulous seamstress and knitter, Eileen created her own wedding dress from parachute silk. As a war-bride, she traveled with her newborn son to the United States on the Queen Mary in 1946. Initially living in Pennsylvania, she finally arrived on the Monterey Peninsula and had her second son in 1950.
A modern woman, Eileen managed several businesses eventually becoming an electrical contractor and was a founding member of NAWIC (National Association of Woman in Construction). After losing her first husband in the early 80's, she married Carl Whitney in 1989 and was with him until his death in 2010. Eileen was a member of the Carmel Foundation and was a parishioner/senior bible student at Carmel Presbyterian Church. True to her British upbringing, she was an amazing gardener, bridge player and baker.
Eileen leaves behind her sons, Daniel Silverie III (married to Patricia Silverie) and Hart Silverie, two stepchildren, six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Eileen's family will truly miss her, but feel blessed to have been a part of her life. They wish to thank Dr. Mike Galloway and Nurse RoseAngel in Dr. Tiongco's office.
A service will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 21 at 1:00PM.
