Eileen Mary Cousins was born on April 26, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York In 1934 when Eileen was only 7, her mother Sarah died of diphtheria and Eileen was sent off to England to be raised by her grandparents. She spent her childhood and early teens growing up in the English countryside of Nottingham. At age 17 she joined Women's Royal Navel Service. Eileen spent the next 4 years as a WREN serving her country and her queen. She remained in England until 1949 then she returned to the United States aboard H.M.S Queen Mary. Eileen moved back home to New York where she had lived and left 15 years earlier. These were very happy times for her, leaving N.Y. a 7 year old child and returning a beautiful, refined young but mature, sweet, lovely woman and who now sports an English accent. Eileen could have had anyone she desired. It was just a little more than a year later that she met Eric Harold Cousins who also happen to come from the same region as she did, Derbyshire England. A year later they were wed in Toronto, Canada .Living in Queens and a year later Eileen gave birth to her first of 2 boys Stephen James and 5 years later Michael Andrew. Eric went to work for American Airlines and in 1961 transferred to Sky Harbor in Phoenix, Arizona. Eileen went to work for Sears and worked there until she retired in 1988 after 27 years of dedicated service. Eileen's husband Eric passed away in 1981 after losing his battle with cancer and lost her eldest son Stephen in 1995. Eileen continued living in the house they had purchased in 1961, 57 years ago. But sadly, on the morning of November 30, 2017 Eileen Mary Cousins passed away quietly and peacefully in her own bed, in her own home with her family at her side. This would not have been possible without the exceptional care and support we received from Hospice of the Valley. Everyone involved in caring for Eileen were kind, caring and compassionate allowing her to maintain her dignity throughout her last years and final days. Eileen is survived by her son Michael, and her granddaughter Nicole Burke (Brian) and great grandson Curran, and by grandson Jason Cousins. Eileen is also survived by Joe and Claire Doherty, Tom and Elly Richas, Diane and Vic Mathers and Espy and Manny Ontiveros, all of whom... To Eileen were family. Respecting Eileen's final requests there was a private family service and shortly after a cremation was performed with specific instructions for her ashes, to be carried out by her family.
