ELAINE B. TAYLOR was born in Philadelphia,  PA on February  8th, 1935 to the late Rachel Centers Jones and the late Henry Crump. Elaine was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and was a proud alumna of Dobbins Vocational Technical School.  Elaine married her childhood sweetheart, the late Harold L. Taylor, Sr. in May 1954 and to this union were born two children: Harold Jr. and Angela.  Although the couple was divorced, they remained on good terms until Harold Sr.'s death in 2012. Elaine was  quick-witted, had a lively sense of humor and was devoted to her children. When asked who the president of the United States is, Elaine's answer was, "Michelle." "But we let Barack think he's running the show."   Her audience got a big kick out of this answer. When her son was younger, Elaine was a den mother for his Cub Scout pack and many of her son's friends affectionately referred to her as "Mom Taylor." Elaine was an active member and participant in home and school associations for all of her daughter's school life. She frequently volunteered to chaperone class trips.  Elaine was a long time City of Philadelphia employee and retired from the Office of Housing and Community Development in 1999. During her working career as a legal secretary, she worked for the first African-American Chief Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court; the late Honorable Judge Robert N.C. Nix Jr. Elaine always said working for Justice Nix was the highlight of her career.  During her later years, Elaine was confined to a wheelchair but never lost sight of the fact that she was "too blessed to be distressed." She remained upbeat and positive until the Lord called his daughter home on November 26, 2016. In addition to her children, Elaine leaves to mourn her passing her sisters Deborah, Michele, Sharon and Loretta, grandchildren: Lakeisha, Valerie and Shanice, several great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson along with a host of other family members and friends.
