Eldred Sorrell Lanier, Jr. passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at the age of 76. He was born September 9, 1941, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Eldred Sorrell Lanier, Sr. and Elizabeth Grubbs Lanier.

Mr. Lanier served in the U.S. Marines. He received his BA from the University of Alabama and a Masters in Civil Engineering from Tulane University. He was the founder and CEO of Lanier & Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc.

Mr. Lanier is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Lanier Keosaian; and his daughter, Lacy Douglass Lanier.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nell Buie Lanier (the former Eleanor Glenn Buie); his children: Hallie Lanier Boh and her husband, Stephen Boh; Nicholas Price Lanier and his wife, Laura (“Lacey”) Lanier; and Piper Lanier Moritz and her husband, Dr. Andrew Moritz. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nicholas White, Logan Lanier, James Moritz, Sterling Lanier, Park Moritz, Henry Moritz and Suzie Lanier; and his sister, Lylé Lanier King.

Mr. Lanier served on the Boards of the University of Alabama College of Engineering Alumni, Pratt Stanton Manor and Save Our Cemeteries. He received the Distinguished Engineering Fellows honor from University of Alabama College of Engineering. Mr. Lanier served as President of the New Orleans Chapter of the Consulting Engineers Council, was a member of the Huguenot Society, The Louisiana Club and several Carnival organizations. He established a wildlife management property, Watership Down, in Poplarville, Mississippi. A true outdoorsman – who enjoyed deer hunting for most his life.

Mr. Lanier was a private aircraft pilot for 30 years. He was an avid tennis player at the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club. Mr. Lanier was an experienced runner, running in several marathons including the Boston Marathon.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State Street in New Orleans. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m.
