Eleanor Margaret Berg Eleanor Margaret Berg was born on April 16, 1921 in Sodus, Michigan, the daughter of Louis and Alvina Martin (nee Hauch). Eleanor was made a child of God through the waters of Holy Baptism at St Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was confirmed in the faith at St. Matthew’s on April 7, 1935. On October 6, 1946, Eleanor was united in marriage with Norman W. Berg. God granted them fifty-four years together until he called Norman home to himself on May 17, 2001. Their marriage was blessed with five children. During her life, she served by her husband’s side at St. Peter, Globe, AZ; Redeemer, Tucson, AZ; Grace, Benton Harbor, MI; and St. Peter, Plymouth, MI. In 1968 Norman accepted the call to the Board for Home Missions for the WELS in Milwaukee, WI where she worked for many years as a secretary at the Milwaukee Teachers Union Office. Upon retirement, the Bergs continued to serve their Lord in retirement calls in Kennewick, WA; San Diego, CA; and Scroggins, TX. Eleanor was a keen observer of the world around her and often made trenchant remarks about the passing scene. She was happiest when entertaining and cooking for family and friends. She took great joy in her grandchildren. She loved her nieces and nephews, and showed special favor to her sons and daughters-in-law. She is survived by her five children: Peter M. Berg (Susan), Chicago, IL; Mary E. Clemons (Samuel), Los Angeles, CA; John W. Berg (Beth), Fremont, CA; Margaret A. Wendland (Paul), Mequon, WI; and Miriam E. Berg, Biloxi, MS. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman; a twin sister, Ellen, sisters Ruth Martin and Annabelle (Richard) Jung, her brother Donald Martin and her nephew Gregory Martin. Funeral services will be held November 4, 2017 at Garden Homes Lutheran Church, 2450 W. Roosevelt Dr., Milwaukee. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 AM, until the time of Funeral Service at 10:00 AM. The committal service will be held following the service, at Graceland Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to WELS Kingdom Workers or Friends of China.
