Elijah Barnes, 71, of Bastrop, TX, passed away on July 22, 2017, suddenly at his home.

A Celebration of Elijah Barnes's life will be held at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Dr. Kevin Hull of Cook Walden will be officiating.

Elijah was born in Wilson, North Carolina on July 3, 1946, and attended Charles H. Darden High School. He moved to Austin, Texas for work, where he met and married Kathryn Rucker Barnes on March 3; they were married over 40 years.
Elijah worked as a truck driver and supply clerk for Travis State School for over 40 years. He enjoyed traveling, BBQing, and watching his favorite sports such as football and boxing.

Elijah is survived by his wife Kathryn Barnes, and her family, Son Gabriel Bullock and Wife "Taffy" (Catherine) of San Angelo, TX, Daughter, Ruth "Baby Ruth" Bullock, Retired APD of Bastrop, TX, Daughter Betty Adams of Austin, TX; her grandchildren, Christopher Bullock of Del Valle, TX, Tanisha Hall of Austin, TX, and Ramon Adams and Wife Tonya of Richmond, Virginia; his daughter, Rowena Dawana Barnes of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Kiara Shaharriet Chantaé Hopkins and Kennetta La Tanya Robinson, all of Austin, Texas; great-granddaughters, Kayla Ariyana Roschon Scott, Kiani Rose Webb, Jzaré Luvv Webb, Khloe Derion Edna Scott, all of Austin, Texas; brothers, James Barnes of Wilson, North Carolina, and Robert Barnes of Washington, DC; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Simms Clay of San Antonio, Texas; nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Elijah is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Annie Barnes, siblings, Alma Barnes Ray and Richard Barnes; and his daughter, Carrie Roschon Simms Robinson.

Flowers would be appreciated, or Memorial Contributions in Elijah's name may be made the 100 Club of Central Texas.
