Elinore (Ellie) Shanks Koch, age 92, of Mesa, AZ, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017. Elinore was born in Bowling Green, OH, to George F. and Beatrice (Amos) Shanks. She graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1942, and from Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati in 1945. She also attended the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She had a long career as a Registered Nurse in Michigan working in hospitals and as a public health nurse. She married Richard L. Koch at the Bowling Green United Brethren Church in 1948.

Elinore had a zest for life, and loved serving others. Through one her hobbies, knitting, she created and distributed caps for premature babies. She enjoyed traveling, having visited many places on the globe, including China, Russia, Norway, Australia, Germany, and most recently, the Panama Canal. Ellie and Richard also enjoyed many years of high level square dancing at locations throughout the United States. She was always active in her church, most recently First Presbyterian in Mesa.

Elinore was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Glenn and Paul Shanks, and son Louis Richard Koch. She is survived by her husband Richard, daughters Carol (Richard) Engelsman of Milford, MI, and Nancy (William) Dynes, of Indianapolis, IN, son Ronald (Bernal) Koch of Temperance, MI, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
