Elizabeth B. Stokley, age 86, died on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Mease Countryside Hospital.

Elizabeth was known by Betty or “Mamaw” and was from Williamstown, MA. She headed to Florida in the 1950s to make a better life for herself and son, Mark. Betty was a dedicated employee for Publix Supermarkets and worked there through the early 1970s. Post “retirement” from Publix, Betty became better known as “Mamaw” and babysat children in the 1970s and 1980s. Mamaw took care of her own grandchildren, as well as other children in the neighborhood. She volunteered at the local schools, was often a field trip chaperone and enjoyed seeing children learn. Her last employment before real retirement was for the Pinellas County Schools at East Lake High School. She was a lunchroom cashier and made a positive impact on the students there with her kind heart and friendly manner.

Betty lived for many years with her best friend, Mary Ferrell. They met working at Publix many years before. This friendship was one for the ages. They enjoyed traveling, especially camping with a travel trailer. They camped all over the Smoky Mountains, especially enjoying Franklin, NC. Betty and Mary were the original Golden Girls.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy G Smith, son-in-law, Daniel E Smith, grandchildren Kristen E Schwarz and Christopher S Smith; niece, Frances Harris, great-grandchildren, Justin and Hannah Smith and Emma and Gabriel Schwarz; her best friend Mary F Ferrell and many other friends and loved ones.

Graveside Service on Tuesday, April 4th at 3PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Cemetery. 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL.
