Elizabeth V. “Betty” Iozzo, 94 years old of Greenwood, IN, formerly of Indianapolis and Cicero, IN died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on December 24, 2010. She was born September 8, 1916 in Toledo, OH to Albert & Della Zenz. The eldest of 5 children, she is survived by her sister Mary Rose Zenz Bucciarelli of Joliet, IL and her brother, Albert (Lois) Zenz of West Chester, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Dominic F. Iozzo, her son Dominic Iozzo, Jr. and her sisters Kathleen Zenz Clendenin and Lillian Zenz, OSF.

Betty was graduated from Shelby (Ohio) High School and the Ohio College of Business. She moved to Indianapolis in 1936 due to a job transfer with the Social Security Administration. Betty met her husband to be at his family’s restaurant in Indianapolis, Iozzo’s Garden of Italy, when she sought help for a broken juke box. He fixed the juke box and lost his heart to her.

Dominic and Betty were married January 1939 at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and remained in Indianapolis until they moved to Cicero, IN in 1980. Betty was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish for 30 years. She was also an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Cicero where she was the Chair of the Altar Sodality. She later moved to Greenwood where she attended Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church.

Betty was a skilled seamstress who was willing to share her knowledge with young homemakers. She was a Democratic Precinct Committee person for many years, a delegate to the Indiana State Convention, and also a Girl Scout Leader. She was passionate about her faith, family and Indiana sports teams. She played a vibrant and dynamic role in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness and generous spirit which was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Survivors include children Thomas V. (Joanne) Iozzo of Scottsdale, AZ, John A. (Diana) Iozzo of Indianapolis, IN and Yolanda “Lani” E. (Roger) Cummings of Greenwood, IN. Also surviving are her grandchildren Laura I. Hahn, Katherine E. (Greg) Harris, Teresa M. Cummings, Elizabeth R. Iozzo, Virginia F. Iozzo, Philip A. Cummings, Kristine J. Iozzo and Meredith K. Iozzo and her great grandchildren Jane, Kate & Christopher Hahn.

Visitation will be at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Greenwood on Tuesday evening from 4-8 PM. A funeral mass will be at 10 AM on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian Street, Greenwood. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
