Connar, Elizabeth Aline Dickens, fondly known as "Dickie", died peacefully at her home in Tampa on March 31, 2017. Dickie was born in Madison, Georgia, in 1923. She was proud of her Southern heritage, and maintained contacts with friends and family in Madison throughout her life. She moved to Tampa in 1954 with husband, Dr. Richard G. Connar, and raised her family while maintaining a busy schedule including leadership roles with Suncoast Girl Scout Council, Berkeley Prep, Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Tampa General Foundation and Auxiliary, USF School of Medicine, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Dickie was a gifted seamstress, an excellent cook, and was very proud of her reputation as a gracious hostess. She loved to travel and her footsteps can be counted on 6 continents. Mementoes of her travels are found throughout her home. Dickie was predeceased by husband, Dick Connar, and their two daughters, Cathleen Connar Watson, and Elizabeth Connar Baker. She is survived by son, Richard G. Connar, Jr.; by granddaughter Anna Margaret Watson Griggs, her husband Tom, and great grandchildren, Miles and Stella; by granddaughter Elizabeth Grace Baker Courtney, and great grandson, Luke; by granddaughter Virginia Aline Baker Chapin, her husband Boyd, and great grandsons, Connar and Kellan; by former son-in-law Peter Baker, and wife, Irene Hanas Baker; by nephew Robert and Gail Henderson and their children; by niece Barbara and Fred Simmons and their children; and by nephew Jay and Enid Henderson and their children. A public memorial service will be held at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 509 E Twiggs St, Tampa, FL 33602 at 11 AM on Saturday, April 8, 2017, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall, and then private interment at Myrtle Hill Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Life Path Hospice (Tampa Bay) and the St. Andrews Episcopal Foundation.
